There is a need for all artists to have an opportunity to develop their ideas within a sympathetic environment and a framework that will help facilitate individual work. This painting masterclass will consist of a combination of individual tutorials, discussions, talks and working together, all of which will provide a focus for your development as a painter.
The purpose of this painting masterclass is to develop your own art within a stimulating and structured environment with other artists and with a professional artist who is willing to discuss your work and will also be working nearby developing his own painting ideas.
Each morning there will be a general studio visit to discuss your painting. An individual tutorial will be given to each student by appointment.
There will also be a series of short presentations by students on an aspect of their painting (which you may like to prepare beforehand). There will be a formal lecture/discussion on painting midway through given by your tutor. His own studio will also be open at certain times during the week. Finally, at the close of the masterclass, a working exhibition which will be given and will be open to the College community.
For this painting masterclass, you should bring work or some ideas you may already have started and prepared with this time in mind. There will be the environment of the West Dean Grounds to work from landscape, still life, interior, etc., and any special requirements should be put on the form provided.
Please note: students on this painting masterclass should already have a strong history of work as a visual artist and would benefit from time aside in the manner described. Discussion and working in a less prescriptive yet stimulating and structured environment will encourage individual development.
