We will consider stand-alone water features and how these can be placed to bring the sound of running water into seating areas. Rain gardens will be described and discussed, and how to use surface water in the garden to create beautiful features and practical installations to aid irrigation and natural dispersal/ infiltration. This will include looking at bioswales as a designed habitat feature.
Ponds will be discussed, methods of construction and ways to keep them topped up and healthy. We will also discuss the placement of ponds in the garden. We will also touch on natural swimming ponds and consider how these are kept clear.
The day is very much focused on the aesthetics and practicalities when working with water as a designer; a softer, more natural approach will be encouraged, considering our place in a shared ecological habitat.
