Raymond Burley
Raymond Burley is one of Britain’s most experienced guitarists. As a soloist he has toured extensively throughout the UK, Europe, North and South America and the Far East. He has performed and recorded with many of England’s finest orchestras including the Philharmonia, English Chamber Orchestra, Hallé Orchestra and BBC Symphony Orchestra.
He has given premieres of works by composers Bernard Stevens, Reginald Smith Brindle, Gilbert Biberian, Stephen Dodgson, Anna Segal, John Duarte, Kai Nieminen, Mark Houghton, James Patten and Colette Mourey. Duo partners include guitarists Alice Artzt, John Mills, John Feeley, Gordon Giltrap, Clive Carroll and John Etheridge; other partners have included actresses Dame Peggy Ashcroft, mezzo soprano Jacqueline Fox, harpsichordists Stephen Bell and Gilbert Rowland, violinist Emanuel Salvador and keyboard player Rick Wakeman. For several years Raymond Burley was a member of the Pro Arte Guitar Trio.
Raymond Burley has given masterclasses and directed guitar festivals in the UK, Vancouver, Ottawa, Toronto, Calgary, Seattle, San Francisco, Salt Lake City, Washington DC, New York, Princeton, Dublin, Kowloon, Bonn, Athens, Bremen and Lima.
He has tutored and examined at Oxford, Dublin and Reading Universities and at the Royal Welsh College of Music in Cardiff.
Raymond Burley has numerous recordings to his credit and arrangements published by Schott, Corda and the London College of Music (UK), D’Oz (Canada), Bergmann (Denmark), Daminus (Germany), PWM (Poland) and Durand (France).
