Peter Jones
Peter worked in London as a furniture restorer and leather liner before training in bookbinding at Brighton Polytechnic. He now works as a bookbinder and as a carpenter and has taught bookbinding extensively, including at the Universities of Brighton and Roehampton. He is a Fellow and Past President of Designer Bookbinders and has had several articles published in The New Bookbinder. His work is exhibited internationally and held in numerous collections. Peter mainly works from his studio bindery in Wannock, East Sussex.
Describe your approach to teaching:
I think it is important that the student understands why they are doing something, not just how to do it. In this way they are better informed and able to make decisions when working on their own.
What inspires your own work?
My own work is always specific to the book in hand. I am constantly seeking solutions to the needs that each presents and am particularly interested in the development of structural techniques.
