Pat Johnson

Pat is self-taught in enamelling, discovering her techniques over many years of practice. Teaching at West Dean since the 1970s has widened her scope. Pat's bowls can be seen at Primavera Gallery in Cambridge and she has written many articles about the work of other enamellers and their techniques.

Describe your approach to teaching:

I introduce beginners to the techniques and then encourage my students to work individually, learning about copper enamelling themselves and from others, under my guidance. Many discoveries are made in my classes.

What inspires your own work?

What enamels can do endlessly fascinates me. New colours and textures can always be created and working with enamels is a matter of partnership.
