Marie-Louise Raue

Marie-Louise Raue is an architect and currently teaches at the Architectural Association and the Arts University Bournemouth. She has worked with the Office for Metropolitan Architecture in Rotterdam and Herzog & de Meuron architects in Basel. Through her practice F A R, she uses drawing as a medium to explore the relationship between architecture, sculpture and the environment.

Describe your approach to teaching
My approach involves introducing students to architectural drawing techniques as a means of seeing the world and putting ideas forward. I am keen to test the boundaries of architectural drawing conventions and see where the imagination takes us.

What inspires your own work?
Currently, I am exploring drawings from the earth’s point of view. I am inspired by the hidden, the below ground and the environment at large. I mostly draw in pencil and ink which enable both incredible precision and accidental surprises.
