Lucy Baxandall
Lucy Baxandall is a papermaker and book artist based at Tidekettle Paper in Berwick-upon-Tweed. She has worked as a financial journalist, jewellery designer/maker, translator and teacher of French, German and art in the UK and the USA.
Lucy lived in Chicago from 1997 to 2007 and holds an MFA in Interdisciplinary Book and Paper Arts from Columbia College Chicago.
From 2008 to 2011, she was a teacher and artist in residence at John Mason School in Abingdon, Oxfordshire, Since returning to London, she has taught at the London Centre for Book Arts, and now teaches 2D and 3D papermaking at Morley College. She also runs papermaking and book arts workshops for groups and individuals at her studio, around the UK and in the Middle East, and translates for academic publications.
Her raw materials for papermaking include plant fibres, and recycled cotton and linen fabrics. Much of her work is inspired by geological formations, as she explores human attempts to control uncontrollable forces.
