Kate Barlow

Kate studied at KLC School of Design over 18 years ago following a successful career in marketing and has since worked on a wide variety of residential projects both in terms of scale and style. She now has a portfolio work life of designing for her own clients, as a freelance designer on large-scale renovations, as well as teaching. She is a member of both SBID and BIID.

Describe your approach to teaching
My approach to teaching is to encourage the students to think out of the box creatively and stretch their own self-imposed boundaries, whilst giving them a practical structure to follow and be successful.

What inspires your own work?
My own design work is inspired by many things, but a love for the subtle colours in nature here in the UK means that there is never much black, white or grey in my clients’ homes!
