Hugh Dunford Wood
Hugh Dunford Wood studied at Ruskin School of Fine Art, Oxford.
He is an artist and printer - on fabric, paper and wallpaper. He
has painted and exhibited worldwide with work in the collections of
the V&A Museum andThe Bodlian Library. He was Artist in
Residence with the Royal Shakespeare Company, at the Globe when it
first opened and latterly on Bermuda for its 400th anniversary. His
wallpaper designs follow the Arts and Crafts tradition, learnt from
Peggy Angus in the 1970s.
Describe your approach to teaching:
The essence of sharing my skill is to give confidence and to show
that developing this new skill can be useful and fun. I use lino
block printing techniques, producing individual art prints, hand
block printed wallpapers and linen textiles. The technique is
equally applicable to furnishing and dress fabrics. My handmade
wallpapers grace homes, hotels and opera houses around the world,
including National Trust properties.
What inspires my work?
I aim to celebrate life is my credo, and most of my work is taken
from observational sketches of the natural world (the best designer
of all), these can be developed into the abstract.
