Helen Johannessen

Working in the ceramic industry since graduating in 1995 from Middlesex University, London, training in a production studio as a professional model and mould maker. She received The HRH Presidential Medal Award 2020, Heritage Craft Association for her dedication and contribution to the skills currently listed on the Endangered Red List.

Working as part of a large team in the film industry in the late 1990’s as a model maker at Shepperton Studios, building scale models of Trafalgar Square for The New Avengers, Entrapment 36 ft high model of Petronas Towers and sculptural sets and props for Lost In Space.

Accumulated technical abilities, broad experience and tenacity inform her artworks and designs; problem solving, hand craft making skills and artistic integrity form Helen’s innovative studio approach.

Education has always been part of Helen’s career, teaching and lecturing in higher education, colleges and studios (Central St Martins, Middlesex University, Morley College, The Kiln Rooms) She offers bespoke masterclasses in London and has travelled to Vietnam,Thailand and China with the British Council, Al Ula, Turquoise Mountain Saudi Arabia.

Community, charity and mentoring are a part of her on going creative remit, sharing her learnings, enthusiasm and expertise with those on a new path or journey, is a strong driving force for her.
