Cathy Stables

Cathy Stables has a BA Hons in Graphic Design from Exeter College of Art, later studying Calligraphy, Illumination and Heraldic Art.

She is a Fellow of the Calligraphy and Lettering Arts Society and Society of Scribes and Illuminators. She has been teaching for 20 years and has had work featured in exhibitions nationwide. 

Describe your approach to teaching
I teach lettering and design skills, taking each person from where they are at. I’m keen to let students find their own voice and use subjects which inspire them. I teach by demonstration and individual discussion. 

What inspires your own work? 
I am inspired by the things around me particularly nature and the sea. I am inspired by fine detail, by craftsmanship and traditional techniques.
