Arne Brattland
Arne Brattland was educated at the Norwegian State Academy of
Music in Oslo. He later studied in London for several years and had
a successful Wigmore Hall debut in 1988. Arne has toured many
countries around the globe and has many recordings to his credit.
Several prominent Norwegian composers have written works for him
and he has become widely known for his arrangements and
performances of music by Edvard Grieg. Arne has also been involved
with ensemble and chamber music for a long time, and is a member of
the Arctic Guitar Trio who performed at West Dean Classical Guitar
Festival in 2015. He has an interest in world music, delivering
workshops to schools in the south east. Arne and his family now
live in England.
Describe your approach to teaching:
I am an experienced solo and ensemble teacher, having taught pupils
of all ages and levels over many years. I believe music is a
reflection of life and therefore I enjoy listening to anything that
is performed with honesty and skill. In my teaching I try to put
this across to the students, to enable them to become expressive
musicians as well as critical listeners. The instrumental technique
is there simply to serve all these goals.
