Ann Richards

Ann trained at UCA, Farnham, where she later also taught for many years. She works with high-twist yarns to create flexible, textured fabrics and textile jewellery. Over the past twenty years she has given workshops in the UK and internationally and is the author of "Weaving Textiles That Shape Themselves".

Describe your approach to teaching:

I encourage students to experiment and reflect carefully on their results, helping them to see how fibres with different properties interact with one another to create varied cloth qualities.

What inspires your own work?

I trained originally as a biologist and this background strongly influences my textile work, as I draw on form and function in nature as a starting point for many designs.
