Adrian Holmes

Adrian Holmes is a printmaker devoted to Japanese printmaking. Following study in Japan and years of exploring the capabilities of this process, Adrian now makes work to commission as well as non-commissioned work that shows regularly in the South West of England. He divides his time between his art practice, teaching woodblock printmaking in the Southwest and continuing his dedicated study of woodblock printmaking in Japan. Adrian is currently based at Krowji studio in Cornwall.

Describe your approach to teaching.

Being a teacher gives me the opportunity to facilitate and promote people’s creative skills, develop their understanding of subject, and find their artistic voice. My style is very much about exploring and finding one’s own artist direction with an emphasis on experimentation and play.

What inspires your own work?

My work draws a lot from the abstraction of nature here in Cornwall and I would definitely say the outdoors and nature play a big part and have become integral to my work. I live on a farm and am very close to the coast, so it’s literally in every breath. Japan and Cornwall are obvious inspirations and I’m lucky to be able to spend time between both.
