About this course

Improve your playing of 17th century English music on this course for intermediate or advanced players of treble, tenor or bass viols, who are confident in sight reading and playing one-to-a-part.

Course Description

This course is intended for intermediate and advanced players of treble, tenor or bass viols, who are confident in sight reading and playing one-to-a-part. 17th century English music will form the main area of study.

The focus is on working towards playing as a consort, improving the quality and variety of sound on the viol and understanding more about how to play the music in a stylistically appropriate way.

You will be accepted in order of application, though this is subject to level of experience and a suitable balance of players. Places are limited, so any deposit paid will be refunded if we are not able to accept your application after the tutor’s assessment of these aspects – please see below.
