Life drawing is at the heart of so many artists’ practices – from early Greek painters to Lucian Freud, the human form and its perception by another can yield a plurality of approaches and encounters.
You will be guided through the fundamentals of drawing the figure – experimenting with techniques and materials to help nurture your own idiosyncrasies and interests. Focusing on both the figure and its surrounds, the aim of the course is to enjoy and explore the methods and approaches that can be discovered in relation to the model.
Working alongside the tutor, for whom representation and the figure are key to his practice, you will work through various exercises and approaches as a group whilst simultaneously engaging one-to-one with the tutor. Looking at line, tone, volume, mark-making and gesture, the aim is that you will nurture an approach that can be perpetuated beyond the life room and the course.

Courses start early evening. Residential students to arrive from 4pm, non-residential students to arrive by 6.45pm.
6.45pm: Welcome, followed by dinner (included).
8 - 9pm: First teaching session, attendance is essential.
Daily timetable
Classes 9.15 - 5pm, lunch is included.
From 6.30pm: Dinner (included for residential students).
Evening working - students may have access to workshops until 9pm, but only with their tutor's permission and provided any health and safety guidelines are observed.
Last day
Classes 9.15am - 3pm, lunch is included.
Residential students are to vacate their rooms by 10am please.

Tim Patrick (b.1988) is an artist based in London and the South West. Having initially trained in traditional portrait painting in Florence, Italy, Tim subsequently studied in Brighton and the Royal Drawing School in London. His work was recently exhibited in the 2018 Threadneedle Prize and various exhibitions in London.
