About this course

The study and making of an English multi-petaled rose and leaves from silk, covering many techniques from silk painting to the shaping of petals.

Course Description

Using real flowers as inspiration for colour and form, you will have the opportunity to study the construction of a multi-petaled English rose, with its clusters of pleated petals.

In this workshop, you will cut and colour each petal from silk, experimenting with colour blending before shaping them using heated flower tools. To support the rose's structure, you will create a cup-shaped base that will hold the centre of the rose, which remains hidden but helps to build the flower from the inside out. You will also use paper clay to craft the ovary and even add a rose prickle or two. Additionally, you will learn how to make leaves with hidden wires and bind the stems with silk.

This workshop covers a range of techniques that you can apply to create a variety of other roses and flowers. While it may not be the easiest to make, Anne will guide you through each step, ensuring you leave the workshop with a beautiful, finished rose.
