This demonstration-based day will show you how to approach an alchemic transformation of discarded items into a site-specific botanical installation, inspired by the Salvador Dali painting, Vegetal Metamorphosis.
Fiona will work with branches found on the floor, leftovers from the garden compost heaps and unexpected items of interest and intrigue, as well as select fresh materials from the garden and grounds.
You will observe and learn the art of creating installations out of seemingly nothing and will come away with a new-found appreciation for the overlooked and discarded, appreciating and celebrating the beauty in their imperfections.
The lecture includes:
Whilst there will be no participation per se, Fiona will encourage questions throughout the day and may occasionally require a helping pair of hands or eyes.
Please note, this course will take place in The Orangery, or, weather permitting, outside in the grounds at West Dean College, so please use the College car park. Lunch is included.
Suitable clothes and footwear in case we go outside (only if weather is fine!)
