About this course

Join paper artist Tracey Bush for this one-day course where you will learn skills and techniques to create Folk Art Papercuts. Drawing inspiration from Northern European historic examples, you will utilise small scissors to cut both traditional designs and your own images. Tracey is one of the few British members of the Dutch Papierknipkunst association, and has had a long career absorbed in papercrafts.

Course Description

During this one-day course, you will learn how to select papers suitable for papercutting, and how to create your own original designs based on historic examples. All materials used are non toxic and have a low environmental impact, and upcycled papers can be incorporated if desired.

Tracey has studied papercrafts since 1997, when she was the recipient of a Stationers’ Company Travel Grant, which enabled her to travel to South Korea to research ‘Korean Paper Culture' which is lodged at Stationers’ Hall. You will be introduced to papercutting traditions from Korea, Germany, the Netherlands and America, and given suggested further reading. You will be guided through the safe use of scissors and paper knives, and where to source papers for cuttings.

Papercuts can be further enhanced by the use of adhesive layers, which will be demonstrated by your tutor.

You should be able to complete several papercuts in a range of techniques during this one-day course, which can be developed into creative works after the course.
