Working on heavy watercolour paper, you will be learning how to mix and match the colours for large washes. You will be working using the wet-in-wet method but importantly learning about resting the paper in between the washes, how to create light and shade, what colours work best for the subject and learning how to adjust and perfect as you paint.
This two-day course is best for those that have had some watercolour experience.
On this course the College will supply tracing paper and your tutor will supply watercolour paper. There will be some brushes to borrow or buy and a photograph to work from.
-Your usual brushes plus a size 6 pointed brush and a large wash brush -Dab pad (old flannel to dab the brush onto) -HB/F/H pencils, a set is useful -Mars plastic eraser, and a putty rubber or blue/white tac, your tutor prefer the latter -Liquid masking fluid – Talens -Small polished stone for smoothing - optional -Pencil sharpener -Artist quality watercolours – your tutor’s colour list is as follows please note all colours are not essential. If you have a different make of paint please bring them but make sure they are artist quality, don’t go shopping!

Please wear appropriate clothing/aprons for the workshop or studio, this includes stout covered footwear (no sandals or open toes).
Daily Timetable
Course teaching 11am–5.15pm
Students arrive 10.30am-11am (coffee optional)
Morning teaching 11am-1pm
Lunch break between 1pm-2pm (lunch is not included)
Afternoon teaching 2pm-5.15pm (15 minute break, 3.30pm–3.45pm)
Teaching finishes 5.15pm
Short courses are open to anyone aged 18 and over. The course fee covers tuition and materials where stated. You will need to bring all other items listed under the ‘Materials to bring’ section.
Coffee and tea are included in the course fee, but you will need to bring lunch with you to eat in the refreshments room. There are also plenty of other local venues to purchase food.

There is a small lift to higher floors or stairs.
Short course students are required to sign a safety compliance form as part of West Dean Health and Safety regulations.
