About this course

This course will enable you to gain confidence and to explore different drawing techniques using the human figure as inspiration. This course forms part of a series of four evening sessions that can be taken as a complete course or individually. During this session, you will concentrate on foreshortening.

Course Description

Each week you will look at various drawing methods suitable in describing line, tone, form and volume of the figure in space.

During the course, you will work with pencil, graphite, Conté crayon/ or pencil, charcoal and ink to define light and shade. You will analyse though several exercises and from poses of varying lengths, positive and negative shapes, depth, weight, form and foreshortening. You will achieve a greater understanding of human anatomy and proportion using measurement techniques.

Drawing directly from the nude, a number of both short and long poses will be studied.  Short poses will allow you to experiment with new materials and techniques while longer poses will allow for more sustained and considered study of the figure, measurement and perspective.  Pose lengths will range from five minutes to one-hour each evening. You will examine a variety of drawing techniques using pencil, charcoal, brush and ink.

A life model will be provided for the duration of the course.
