Join us for an exclusive hands-on workshop with contemporary fashion designer Giuseppe Savoca, where you will delve into the art of beading and discover how traditional techniques can be revitalised with a modern twist. This immersive experience is designed to empower you with the skills and creativity needed to produce unique beaded accessories that stand out in today's fashion landscape.

Aims:

• To introduce the intricate world of beading and its applications in contemporary fashion
• To foster creativity and innovation by blending traditional beading techniques with modern design elements
• To provide a comprehensive understanding of the materials, tools and techniques used in professional beading

Objectives:

• You will gain hands-on experience in padded micro-beading techniques
• You will learn to design and create a small beaded accessory, such as a bracelet or brooch
• The workshop will equip you with the ability to combine different materials and techniques to produce unique fashion pieces
• You will develop an appreciation for the historical and cultural significance of traditional beading methods while exploring their relevance in modern fashion

By the end of the workshop, you will:

• Understand the fundamental principles of beading, including selecting materials, threading and stitching
• Be able to apply traditional beading techniques to contemporary designs, creating pieces that reflect both heritage and innovation
• Have completed a unique beaded accessory, showcasing your new skills and personal style
• Gain confidence in your ability to experiment with and apply beading techniques in various fashion projects

This workshop is perfect for fashion enthusiasts, aspiring designers and anyone interested in exploring the fusion of traditional craftsmanship and modern design. No prior experience in beading is required; just bring your creativity and enthusiasm for learning.

Please note, you will need to be able to thread fine needles and pick up micro-beads.

Included

On this course the tutor will supply all of the materials, including micro-beads, threads, wax, scissors, fabric, needles, clamps and a hoop for use on the day.

What students need to bring

Sewing Materials will be provided for the course, though experienced makers may like to work with their own tools (e.g. sewing scissors, thimble).

Available to buy

Available from tutor: An additional kit of beads, embroidery hoop, spring clamp and needles will be available if you wish to buy extra material to experiment with the technique at home at the end of the day.

Additional information

Please wear appropriate clothing/aprons for the workshop or studio, this includes covered footwear (no sandals or open toes).

Daily Timetable

Course teaching 11am–5.15pm
Students arrive 10.30am-11am (coffee optional)  
Morning teaching 11am-1pm
Lunch break between 1pm-2pm (lunch is not included)
Afternoon teaching 2pm-5.15pm (15 minute break, 3.30pm–3.45pm)
Teaching finishes 5.15pm  
 

Short courses are open to anyone aged 18 and over. The course fee covers tuition and materials where stated. You will need to bring all other items listed under the ‘Materials to bring’ section.

Refreshments

Coffee and tea are included in the course fee, but you will need to bring lunch with you to eat in the refreshments room. There are also plenty of other local venues to purchase food.

There is a small lift to higher floors or stairs.

Safety

Short course students are required to sign a safety compliance form as part of West Dean Health and Safety regulations.
