9.30am arrival on the day. Teaching hours 10.00am - 4.15pm.

This course is a guide to the basic principles of interior design. Whether you want to gain a better appreciation for your own interior projects, or are thinking about studying further, this provides a comprehensive and enjoyable introduction.

Course Description

This day provides the perfect concise introduction to the world of interior design. Despite the prevalence of design in today’s media, confusion surrounds even some of the most basic principles.

So, whether you just want to gain a better appreciation for your own interior projects, or are thinking about studying further, this practical day provides a compelling, comprehensive and enjoyable introduction.

You will gain a basic introduction into:

  • The design process
  • The client brief
  • Concepts
  • Planning a space
  • Inspirational effects of colour and light
  • The decorative scheme, mood and style
  • Sample board workshop

The morning will comprise of lectures and discussions guiding you through the design process. During the afternoon workshop, you will learn how to create a professionally designed sample board.

Additional information

Please wear appropriate clothing/aprons for the workshop or studio, this includes stout covered footwear (no sandals or open toes).

Course teaching 10am–4.15pm
Students arrive 9.30am-10.00am (coffee optional) 
Morning teaching 10am-1pm
Lunch break 1pm-2pm (lunch is not included)
Afternoon teaching 2pm–4.15pm (15 minute break)
Teaching finishes 4.15pm

General Information

Short courses are open to anyone aged 18 and over. The course fee covers tuition and materials where stated. You will need to bring all other items listed under the ‘Materials to bring’ section.

Refreshments

Coffee and tea are included in the course fee, but you will need to bring lunch with you to eat in the refreshments room. There are also plenty of other local venues to purchase food.

Access

Please tell us about your needs in confidence by emailing: [email protected] This venue has steps to the front reception, with limited access via a side gate to the ground floor. There is a small lift to higher floors or stairs.

Safety

Short course students are required to sign a safety compliance form as part of West Dean Health and Safety regulations.
