An ideal course for students wanting to push the possibilities of making monoprints with a combination of techniques and processes. You will be taught how to mix and apply inks using rollers and brushes on acrylic plates and, at the same time, how to introduce colour with a variety of thin coloured papers. Photocopy as well as collage from magazines and newspapers will be tested for transfer on paper for prints. Introduction of textures with botanical leaves and flowers will be demonstrated.

On this course, you will have learned many techniques for the making of monoprints, but also gained confidence in transferring the techniques to other printmaking methods, such as relief and intaglio.

This is part of a series of four monotype printing courses that can be taken as a group or individually.

Included

The College will provide some polycarbonate clear sheet, a variety of quality printing papers including some Japanese printing paper, newsprint and tissue paper per student, plus some black, white and primary coloured inks, Nori paste, white acrylic paint and coloured tissue paper to share amongst the group.

All necessary equipment will be provided for use on the course.

What students need to bring

• An apron
• Sketchbook, up to A3 in size
• Drawing pencils and your favourite drawing tools
• Brushes: a variety of sizes, ideally acrylic stiff brushes
• One or two plastic push knives or painting knives
• A small collection of leaves, flowers, lace, if you have some; string, thread and anything that might have texture (N.B. No metallic objects - can be used under the press.)

Additional information

Please wear appropriate clothing/aprons for the workshop or studio, this includes stout covered footwear (no sandals or open toes).

Course teaching 11am–5.15pm
Students arrive 10.30am-11am (coffee optional)  
Morning teaching 11am-1pm
Lunch break between 1pm-2pm (lunch is not included)
Afternoon teaching 2pm-5.15pm (15 minute break, 3.30pm–3.45pm)
Teaching finishes 5.15pm  
 

Short courses are open to anyone aged 18 and over. The course fee covers tuition and materials where stated. You will need to bring all other items listed under the ‘Materials to bring’ section.

Refreshments

Coffee and tea are included in the course fee, but you will need to bring lunch with you to eat in the refreshments room. There are also plenty of other local venues to purchase food.

There is a small lift to higher floors or stairs.
