Musical Instruments students visit Royal College of Music, London
First year Foundation Degree Arts Musical Instruments students recently visted the world-renowned Royal College of Music in London on a study trip.
Students had the opportunity to analyse and handle historic musical instruments kept in the Museum; including an English bass viol from the early 17th century and an English guitar from the early 19th century.
In order to later make a copy of the bass voil, students took acoustic measurements, looked inside at the structure of the instrument using an endoscope, took a number of photos and drew the outline of the instrument. An analysis report of the instrument will be presented to the museum when finished.
Thanks to the team at Royal College of Music for facilitating such a fascinating trip!
