Arts alumnus involved in major new surrealism book
Congratulations to MFA alumnus Tim Kent on being included among a number of exceptional painters in Rob Zeller's latest book ‘New Surrealism: The Uncanny in Contemporary Painting’, produced by Monacelli Press.
Of his involvement, Tim said: "I’ve known Robert for several years. He ran a painting atelier near my studio in Bushwick Brooklyn, and he offered me some classes to teach his students at that time. During 2020/21 he had this project started about the use of surrealist tropes etc. in contemporary painting. I had just closed a solo show in Chelsea (NYC) whose imagery tied into what he was thinking at the time, as he needed an artist who did interiors and landscapes. He reached out and told me about the project and I agreed. It was a real pleasure to see the book when it was delivered in December ’23 but more so the calibre of the other artists he managed to include. It’s pretty cool to be included in this book with them."
'New Surrealism: The Uncanny in Contemporary Painting' offers a sweeping exposition of both historical Surrealism and its legacy in the world of contemporary art. It demonstrates the many ways in which the most significant art movement of the last century continues to be relevant today, featuring an international selection of contemporary artists whose compositions and studio practice reveal its influence.
