Interior Designer
What were you doing before studying and why did you decide to study here?
I previously worked in Marketing & Communications, and when I decided to pursue a career change, KLC felt like the natural choice.
How do you think studying at KLC School of Design prepared you for what you do now?
The course gave me a good introduction and broad understanding of the design industry and the role of an interior designer. I think we were able to practice a lot of the core skills that you need and this gave me a foundation to start with that you then build on as you start working within the industry.
Can you identify some of the highlights and challenges of your time with us?
My course coincided with the onset of Covid and the lockdowns, requiring us to adapt to new ways of working. Although it was challenging at first, we quickly adjusted, and ultimately, I feel we benefited from the best of both worlds. The highlights for me were definitely connecting with other aspiring designers and learning from each other.
How has your career evolved since graduating?
My first job after graduating that summer was with Nicola Harding & Co. It was an exciting time to join, as the studio was relatively small but rapidly grew in size and success, taking on an array of impressive projects. I had the opportunity to work on stunning residential homes and a charming boutique country hotel in Surrey. Following that, I joined Anna Haines Design, a smaller studio where I had the privilege of working closely with the founder. This role allowed me to manage all aspects of projects and oversee two high-end residential projects in London. Since then, I’ve launched my own studio in North London, where we specialise in creating welcoming, relaxed interiors with a strong focus on well-being.
What projects are you currently working on?
I’ve recently completed a full renovation of a coastal Fisherman’s cottage in Deal, Kent. Prior to that, I worked on a Victorian Maisonette in Tufnell Park and a family home in St Albans.
What do you consider your biggest achievement to date?
Thrilled to have worked on such amazing projects and now excited to take on projects under my own name.
Do you have any tips for recent graduates?
Identify your unique strengths and talents and focus on building them. With so many types of designers out there, understanding what sets you apart is essential.
