What was your background before KLC?
After a successful international career in financial services, I decided to make a career switch in 2015: With a long standing passion for architecture, design and art I wanted to work in interior design to use my creative skills and refined sense for space design, colours, materials and decoration.
Why KLC?
Following a short course in furniture design with Central Saint Martins in London I have chosen KLC School of Design for its reputation in interior design and the ability to provide me with a sound, fast-track and recognised education. Within my studies and an internship (which focussed on residential projects for renowned clients in Chelsea and Shepherd’s Bush Market), I have worked on projects ranging from residential, commercial to exhibition planning and furniture design.
What are your design interests/strengths?
Having graduated in July 2016 I possess excellent drawing skills to take projects through from concept to completion including concept and design development, preparing construction and design documents, material specifications and cost estimates. Creative and ambitious I have a proven ability to generate fresh solutions and – from my previous career - an excellent commercial approach.
What space best represents you?
I have a wide range of visual references in interior design. Due to my international background, I am particularly familiar with trends in the UK, France, Italy, Germany, Spain and Japan. I feel particularly drawn to the designs of Joseph Dirand, Gilles et Boissier, Sanderson Studios’ E.Tautz store and Piero Lissoni.
A reference from recent times is Erdem Moralioglu’s Mayfair shop designed by Philip Joseph. I have been impressed how Philip Joseph has achieved to provide a timeless, clean environment that has at the same time a homely and elegant feel. The refined materials (e.g. dark grey Belgium marble) are finely balanced with other elements and are not imposing themselves too strongly. Colours and textures are luxurious but understated. Combined with a careful selection of photography, art works, books and plants that complements the interior it invites to explore further.
What are your plans for the future?
I am now looking for a challenging position in which I can apply my skills and experience from the course and further develop my career with an ambitious studio.
