FreeCraft Here: Craft Now is an exhibition of current students and alumni work and associated short courses and taster workshops. The exhibition runs at the Bloomsbury Campus from 14-18 May 2025.
The interactive exhibition presents a collection of objects crafted by our emerging makers studying on the MFA Fine Art, BA Art & Contemporary Craft, BA Craft Practices, and MFA Craft Practices.
The exhibition shares the hidden stories behind their making. Through objects, images, showreels and live demonstrations, the hours of painstaking skill needed to make a piece of fine furniture, carve a viol body from solid timber, transform sheet metal into a beautiful timepiece, carve or weave, deploying often under threat crafts, is brought into stark reality.
The exhibition will showcase how West Dean craft and fine art students transform raw materials into beautiful things: books, musical instruments, timepieces, furniture, metalsmithing and ceramics.
