Artist Talk: Linder – Danger Came Smiling

The Old Library, West Dean College

Free. Booking required

Join us for an early evening talk by the iconic artist, Linder.

To celebrate the opening of a major retrospective exhibition of her work at Hayward Gallery, Linder will discuss her 50-year career. Renowned for her use of photomontage incorporating a wide range of printed matter – from pornographic magazines, dance journals, cookery and horticulture books – Linder’s work has been at the forefront of radical, experimental and feminist art practices since the 1970s. In this talk, Linder will discuss the full scope of her practice, including photography and performance, and introduce the early plans for a new tapestry commission made in collaboration with Ashish Gupta, to be woven by West Dean Tapestry Studio.

Linder is the recipient of the 2024 West Dean Tapestry Commission. Working in collaboration with Ashish Gupta, this new work will combine Surrealism, Pop Art, Punk, performance and fashion. Details of the new work will be announced next month when Linder: Danger Came Smiling opens at the Hayward Gallery, London.
