A creative kick-start to 2016

It's that time of year when many of us will be thinking about learning a new skill, trying something new or changing career. Winter has traditionally been a time for taking evening classes to wile away those long dark evenings. This time of year needn't be an obstacle to studying in the great outdoors.

"If this can be achieved in the gloom of winter, what can be achieved in spring or summer?" says David Williams in appreciation at the end of his weekend digital landscape photography course at West Dean. Read David's full review here.

Have you ever considered a creative weekend with some pals or the indulgence of a week-long Summer School? Or try a one-day taster courses to dip your toe in the water and test your aptitude before going back into the classroom for a longer period.

Of course, taking a short course doesn't necessarily mean spending time indoors and the options for studying are as varied as your imagination. There are painting courses outdoors in the college's stunning South Downs landscape, blacksmithing in the forge, photography workshops out walking on the estate, throwing pots in the pottery or creating your very own art works in the sculpture courtyard.

With the right teacher - and West Dean College tutors are all professionals, many experts in their field - your passion or interest can be transformed into a deep and creative learning experience and who knows where that may lead?

Taking the first step

"I've known about West Dean for a few years, but I wish now I'd come earlier. The teaching, food and surroundings are amazing which makes the whole experience a must do".
