This weekend (January 3rd & 4th), current West Dean College MFA student Margaret Jones is conducting public workshops on tapestry weaving at Modern Art Oxford. The workshops form part of 'The Factory Floor', a project which, as an "homage to William Morris and Andy Warhol's prolific production techniques", transforms the gallery's Yard space into a factory floor. Scheduled throughout the current Love is Enough: William Morris and Andy Warhol exhibition, curated by Jeremy Deller, the workshop series focuses on particular production methods, skills, or crafts, as demonstrated by a expert, also including metal work, paper-making, printing, dry stone walling, bookbinding and ceramics.
Weaving - Margaret Jones / 3 January 2015 - 4 January 2015, 11:30-6pm and 12-4:30pm
Margaret Jones is a tapestry weaver who specialises in weaving three dimensional objects, producing strange and primitive echoes in abstract and ambiguous images and exotic sculptures of organic structures. These workshops will involve demonstrations of these techniques whilst frames and yarns will be available for visitors to try the basics of weaving for themselves.
