The West Dean Professional Knowledge Network is pleased to welcome Delyth Feathston-Dilke as the eighth, and final, speaker in our series, The Sustainable Designer.

In our final talk, of this series, Delyth will discuss her work in upholstery and using natural materials.

Delyth is an upholsterer specialising in sustainable solutions to furniture using natural materials. Her work has featured in House and Garden, the World of Interiors and Homes and Gardens.

She trained with the Association of Master Upholsterers, is a journeyman with the Guild of Traditional Upholsterers and subsequently took a diploma in furniture design. Delyth spent 18 years as a lawyer before retraining as an upholsterer and applied this skill-set to investigating the high use of toxic flame retardant chemicals in the UK.

In 2022 she sent an open letter to the UK Government calling for change which was signed by over 1000 upholsterers. She was invited to join a round table discussion of UK scientists on the use of flame retardants in UK furniture and this lead to her being a co-author of a new scientific consensus paper on reconciling fire safety with environmental and health impacts of flame retardants.

She has several published articles regarding the risks of flame retardant usage including on the Government’s Clean Air website, has spoken at Decorex and in 2023 ran a campaign which saw almost 6,000 upholsterers responding to the current Government consultation on flame retardant usage in the UK.

You will receive a Zoom link for the session in your booking confirmation email, after purchasing your ticket.
