For World Book Day, West Dean College Librarian Teresa has chosen to highlight a selection of books from the library collection that relate to the programmes taught within the School of Conservation across clocks, metals, furniture, ceramics and books specialisms. 

Many years ago, the Library at West Dean College was given a collection of guidebooks relating to historic buildings and gardens by Helen Lowenthal; one of our very early trustees. In this blog post, Librarian Teresa Shergold looks at this collection and reflects on its insight into the College and our Founder Edward James.

In conjunction with Pride month, West Dean College Librarian Teresa takes a look at six related texts selected from the Library collection.

West Dean College of Arts and Conservation recently acquired a new artwork, adding to its diverse and internationally important Collection. The watercolour shows the interior of the grand entrance hall in 1812; and was painted by Comte de Cely. The significance of the work lies in the new understanding it brings to Wyatt scholarship, the study of historic interiors, and the fascinating story of the College’s past. The cataloguing of Edward James's unique personal archive has recently begun. The focus of this project will be the Cultural Papers, a diverse and illuminating body of material with content ranging over many areas of the creative arts including visual art, literature, music and ballet.
