With paper artist and illustrator, Andy Singleton, you will explore the art of paper cutting and create enchanting imagery using just a sheet of paper and a sharp knife. Discover the potential and versatility of paper to create sculptural three-dimensional forms. Learn how to produce beautiful hand marbled papers starting with simple Suminagashi, using Chinese inks to produce delicate papers. You will then progress onto traditional marbling techniques, using gouache paints to produce papers in a set of standard patterns and others of your own design. Bring your books to life turning the 2-D into 3D. Learn step-by-step mechanisms upon which to build and experiment with your ideas. Collate these into a simple book of techniques to take home and use for further exploration. Learn every stage of making a notebook, from folding the paper into sections to gluing and case-making. Progress to ao project such as the repair of a personal book. Learn the traditional Korean way of making textured paper using water and eager hands. Create textural and painterly surfaces by layering and agitating hanji (Korean mulberry papers).
